BTD6

Every few seconds casts an explosive fireball spell.
~ In-game description

Fireball is the first upgrade of Path 2 for the Wizard Monkey in Bloons TD 6. It gives the Wizard Monkey a fireball attack, fired every 2.2s. Upon collision with a bloon, the fireball creates a small explosion, popping up to 15 bloons (20 with 0-1-1) caught within a 10 blast radius. The fireball explosion cannot pop Black properties, though the explosion can pop any other type. If it comes in contact with a Purple Bloon, the fireball will not deal damage or explode.

This upgrade costs $255 on Easy, $300 on Medium, $325 on Hard, and $360 on Impoppable.

Strategy[]

Summary[]

Fireball allows the Wizard Monkey to gain a cheap way to pop Lead, as well as slightly increases the Wizard Monkey's potential for grouped popping power. It is not very reliable, but it is helpful as cheap popping power versus Camo Leads when paired with Monkey Sense. Fireball can also be used to solo Purple rounds, hence letting Wizards pop Purples for cheap, but requires extremely precise timing.

Tips[]

  • The blast radius for Fireball is quite small, at 10 units. As such, treat this attack like a slow-shooting base Bomb Shooter.
  • This upgrade can pop Purples if the original projectile hits a non-Purple bloon and triggers an explosion. This is due to the original fireball being fire damage type but the explosion created being explosion damage type. This has been used in Wizards Only CHIMPS.
  • This upgrade is generally discouraged over Intense Magic and Monkey Sense when pursuing top path Wizard upgrades like Archmage.
  • 0-1-2 Wizard offers very cheap Camo Lead popping power outside of Heroes.

Version History[]

Small quality-of-life changes to the Fireball when interacting with crosspathing. Fireball attack now also gains improved damage and blast radius when upgraded to Dragon's Breath and beyond. Fireball's attack speed is also increased due to underperforming at its lead-popping and grouped-popping role.

23.0
  • BUFF Fireball with Guided Magic can now bypass Line of Sight restrictions
  • BUFF Dragon's Breath and Wizard Lord Phoenix now improves Fireball damage and blast radius.
25.0
  • BUFF Wizard Lord Phoenix even further improves Fireball damage.
29.0
[...] In contrast, Fireball continues to underwhelm, so is seeing an initial buff plus a larger buff at T3.
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • BUFF Fireball fireball's attack delay reduced from 3s → 2.2s
  • BUFF Dragon's Breath now improves Fireball damage.
31.2
  • BUFF [Undocumented] Fireball no longer does single-layer damage
32.0
Polishing some crosspaths, 130 Dragons Breath is the only crosspath for Guided Magic that doesn't yet attack through walls, and 011 Fireball also does not benefit from having the pierce crosspath
~ Ninja Kiwi
  • BUFF 0-1-1 Wizard Fireball pierce increased from 15 -> 20
34.0
  • BUFF Archmage with the Fireball crosspath now increases fireball base damage and MOAB-class damage, and doubles rate of producing fireballs.

Trivia[]

  • There was an interaction with Fireball that allowed the explosions to pop Camo Bloons even without camo detection. This interaction was patched with Version 12.0.
  • Fireballs are among many projectiles whose standard damage types of the initial hit and Burst (unspecified variant) Burst are different, that being Fire Type (pops Black, White, Lead, Frozen) Fire and Explosion Type (pops White, Purple, Lead, Frozen) Explosion, respectively.
  • In the game files, there are five filenames named from FireBall01.wav to FireBall05.wav, which would have possibly been used for hurling a fireball. These sounds were instead used for spawning Wall of Fire.
