Bloons TD 5 Console refers to a series of console ports of Bloons Tower Defense 5 Mobile released by Ninja Kiwi.

Release Dates and Price:

  • March 3, 2017: Xbox One Marketplace - $15
  • March 9, 2017: PlayStation 4 Store - $15
  • June 19, 2018: Nintendo eShop (Nintendo Switch) - $15

The ports contain mostly the same content as the mobile version at their respective time of release, with the exception of the Nintendo Switch version, which has only 63 tracks, whereas the mobile version has 93. Console ports also do not receive new content updates, while Bloons TD 5 Mobile and Bloons TD 5 Steam still receive updates as of 2023.

Console ports also have greatly increased Monkey Money rewards.

The user interface has been redesigned to suit consoles better, with the Upgrade Menu UI presented as a wheel. Additionally, a brief tutorial has been included in the console versions, which was absent in the Flash, Mobile, and Steam versions of Bloons TD 5.

Criticism[]

The game garnered mixed reviews, with both positive and negative feedback. While players appreciated the features that made Bloons TD 5 a popular game, the cursor controls were a particular point of contention, with many criticizing them as subpar. Some also felt that the mobile-to-console port was poorly executed, especially considering its $15 price tag. However, despite these criticisms, the console ports continued to perform well commercially.

Differences between Mobile and Console[]

  • Like Bloons TD 5 Steam, Monkey Money rewards are greatly increased relative with the Mobile version. Winning tracks earns double compared to the Mobile version.
  • Altered UI utilizing a wheel to select tower functions instead of the rectangular border UI.
  • There are no in app purchases just like the steam version, instead double cash, large(?) beacon, and healthy bananas can only be bought with monkey money, while the other purchases are removed.
  • Loading screens show the controls instead of a loading screen with the game name.
  • While the mobile and steam versions are still being updated with new maps in 2023, the console version hasn’t been updated since release.
    • Because of this, the quantity of maps is smaller in the console versions.
  • Console players can only play Co-Op with other console players.
  • The present on the main menu has been removed. Instead, the Monkey Sub is unlocked at Rank 23, Ice Flow is unlocked by completing at least one Easy track, and Challenger Deep is unlocked by completing at least one Intermediate track.
